Hope for Village Child Foundation Champions Women’s Health with Successful Cancer Screening Program

In a continuous effort to improve women’s health and combat life-threatening diseases, Hope for Village Child Foundation (HVCF) successfully conducted a four-day Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening from February 17th to 20th, 2025, at the HVCF Clinic. The initiative provided subsidized screenings, health education, and referrals for further medical attention, ensuring that women in the community receive the care and awareness they need.

Each day began with an interactive health education session led by Sr. Juliana Ekwoanya (Deputy Director/Head of Health Section) and health worker Gloria Chiroma, who emphasized the importance of early detection in reducing cancer-related mortality. The women learned about the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and prevention of breast and cervical cancer, as well as the role of nutrition and lifestyle choices in maintaining good health.

Women who attended the program underwent Clinical Breast Examinations (CBE) and Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid (VIA) for cervical screening. Each participant was informed about the screening process and the significance of early detection.
At the end of the four-day exercise, 127 women were screened, with 20 requiring further evaluation and referred to Amina Hospital Kaduna for additional care.
While the screening program was a success, HVCF remains committed to sustained advocacy, routine screenings, and access to preventive measures such as HPV vaccination. Moving forward, we will strengthen partnerships, promote lifestyle modifications, and improve follow-up for abnormal cases to ensure that more women are reached and protected.
HVCF urges all women to prioritize their health and take advantage of screening opportunities. Early detection saves lives, and together, we can reduce the burden of breast and cervical cancer in our communities.
